Hiking proposal ideas work best when the walk is part of the joy rather than an endurance test. In North Wales, you do not need to climb a summit to find a view that makes your partner stop and stare.
I'm Leon, an accredited celebrant and proposal photographer based in Llandudno. Here is how I would plan a proposal on foot, from choosing the trail to keeping the ring safe.
Choose an Easy Trail With a Big View
Pick a walk you could both manage on a tired day. The path up to Llyn Idwal, the loop around Llyn Crafnant, Conwy Mountain above the estuary and the Moel Famau track in the Clwydian Range all give big views without a hard climb. Where to propose in Snowdonia has more spots.
Time It Around the Light
Start early or late, so you reach your spot when the light is soft and the path is quieter. Allow plenty of time, so nobody feels rushed on the way.
Watch the Mountain Weather
Check the Met Office mountain forecast in the days before. Cloud can sit on the tops while the lakes stay clear, so a lower spot is often the better choice.
Keep the Ring Safe and Hidden
Carry the ring in a zipped inside pocket rather than a backpack your partner might open. Wear layers and boots you can walk in, then take a moment to tidy up before the question.
What I Bring to the Walk
I meet you at the spot, read your love letter with my camera resting at my waist, then photograph the question and the views around you. The Guided Proposal Ceremony is £695.00 on the live services page, with Polaroids and 10% off an Elope with Leon elopement.
Not a Hiker?
You can choose anywhere instead: your own home or garden, a favourite place elsewhere in the UK, or abroad.
The best trail is the one that ends with both of you smiling at the top. See what happens on the day of a guided proposal, then plan your walk with me.
